Contractor has the framing near complete and I will be doing the shingling. My question is what do I do where the rake overhang comes down and then ends at the lower eave? Won’t water run down and get trapped?

Yes it will. You have a MAJOR design problem there. Ask the builder if you can see one of his other houses that has this feature. See how that house handled the problem. You also have a problem closer to the peak. You have a valley towards the top that is going to collect water. I can’t believe this roof design passed any code enforcement instructions.

What a terrible design that is sure to give endless problems to the unsuspecting owners. I wonder what other design problems exist too in this building?
