hi there i am decorating my old bedroom into a nursery,at the moment there is wallpaper on all the walls which i am going to remove but there is mould coming through the wallpaper in some corners of the room which is from condensation i have had it looked at. when i paint over it i was going to use an anti-mould paint as a base then a low voc paint due to it being a nursery. can anyone recommend a good anti-mould paint that i could use that does the job?? i have also heard of a specialist paint called ECOS but it is quite expensive and was wondering has anyone used it - is it worth the price? please help hoping to start decorating asap!! thanks liz

Just because it is going to be a nursery, maybe you should have someone come and check to make sure the mould isn't related to damp, that could worsen if not seen to.

Hi There

What I would do is wash the black mould with ordinary household bleach and then paint it as you planned. You should see the black mould wash away and the bleach kill it. Give it a very good wash.

Are you planning on having kids in the nursery on the same day?
Open the window and have your child sleep in your room for just one night.
Then paint using your usual paint from say dulux, most of their paints are voc compliant in any case.

ok so in short: ordinary household bleach and a sponge, regular paint and ventilation.

simple

Unless you get to the root of your mold problem, no amount of bleach, primer or paint will be a permanent solution. Has anyone checked your basement? Insulation? If its condensation, you have could a whole house moisture problem and not just isolated to one room.

I would have a look at some wallpaper sites, I first started considering paint but found wallpaper adding more vibrancy and character to a room, it is definitely an in thing at the moment

The mould is often found behind the paper and spreads because by nature, paper will hold moisture and go mouldy. If your intention is to remove paper and paint the walls cleaning and then treating with antifungicidal should be enough to remedy the situation. You can of course use a paint that is anti mould but you should not have a problem if you make sure there is some kind of ventilation for the room, presuming of course there are no damp problems from outside. I have found that Brewers Ltd are a very professional company and are very knowledgeable about their products so it's worth looking them up and calling them. They will even deliverbtonyour door.
