Need advice on how to repair and paint bathroom

Hi there,
I live in quite a humid environment and my bathroom suffers from a lot of moisture, as a result the paint has started peeling and also cracking has appeared in the ceiling at the corner.
The roof is concrete, the wall i think is gib.
Should I just use a joint compound to fill the gap and place some corner tape over the corner?
part of the gib has become soft in places as a result of moisture damage and is dented. can this just be plastered over or will I have to replace it?
