Mastic problems

Isnt it about time baths, wash basins etc were designed to fitbwitbtheir edges under the tile fitting, thus doing away with the dread mastic that nearly always eventually leaks, is fitted badly and needs replacing?

Welcome to the forums :).

Unfortunately, I don't think that would work - as water gets everywhere and would find its way through even a very narrow gap. Silicone sealant (or similar) means that water physically can't go where it shouldn't.

Are you having problems with failing sealant? It may be something we can advise on, as it shouldn't fail very often.

Perhaps the layer of sealant you are putting on isn't thick enough? or mould is breaking it down?
