Long story short, water tank burst. A lot of laminate wood flooring in my basement was damaged and had to be trashed however, a lot of flooring was untouched. The problem that I am having is this: I have had two separated guys come to my home and each of them have told me that the entire floor needs to come up as the existing floor has settled and it is simply not a matter of putting down new laminate next to the old laminate. Is there any truth to this? What would be the big deal? The existing laminate flooring is about four years old. I would appreciate any input here on the matter. My insurance claim is still open and if I do in fact need more flooring, I need to speak up now. Thanks in advance!

The problem here is that, as you said, you had a water tank burst. Even if the remaining old laminate still sits tight, some residue humidity might have already found its way under the flooring. It might take time to reveal the damage.

Long story short, the specialists are right. It will be a safer option to ditch the whole old flooring altogether, then install new flooring.
