fir fix is a strap of metal whcih you can drill and screw into an existing wall you get wall ties which clip in the strap, it basically saves you cutting out brickwork and ties your wall in.you just build straight against existing brickwork/blockwork it does save time and money and makes the job easier

Haven't heard the term 'fir fix' but wall starter strips are common, fixed with screw and plugs to any wall, as the brick/block new wall grows, wall tie are inserted into the nearest holes to suit...seemples

Wall ties are meant to ensure stability of two leaves of brickwall. The ties make sure that the two paralell walls do not spread away from each other. Without the ties there is a real risk that the two "separate" leavves (walls) will bow away from each other (or even lean towards each other) and result in the cavity wall collapsing. Why do you ask?

Fir fix are a brand name like hoover. We refer to them as profiles. They are a metal plate abot 3 inch wide and come in lengths of around 1.5m. You scew them to one of the walls and run the brickwork from it and tie evey 3 couses.
