gfci 15 amp outlet 20 amp passthrough

While we wait for a US electrical guy to turn up, I'll guess that it means it's rated to supply 15A but is OK connected to a cable with 20A flowing in it (i.e. supplying other outlets). That's the principle of the mustn't-overheat-tests that UK sockets have to pass to comply with the required standard.

It will be absolutely fine on a 15A breaker.

If you presently have it on a 15-breaker, leave it as is. The 20-amp is only for people whom have additional "downstream" loaded connected to the "LOAD" terminals on the back of the GFCI.

In other words, if weren't tripping the circuit breaker (or the GFCI button) before the removal of the stained devices, your present is fine.
