If you have to ask these questions you should not doing it.

Also it depends on the appliance it will be be running, how long the pipe run is, how many (if any) elbows, is it to be buried in solid floor, under a suspended floor, ect, ect, ect

The "Gas Installation and Use Regulations" state that only competent persons can work on gas appliances and pipework. The definition of competent in the regulations states "class of person approved by the Secretary of State and registered with an approved body" i.e. Gas Safe at this moment in time. You will invalidate any insurance you have if you carry out the work. If you are registered I will be only too pleased to give you the formulea.

Please don't mis quote the regulations.

Regulation3(1) actually says:
1) No person shall carry out any work in relation to a gas fitting or gas
storage vessel unless he is competent to do so.

Guidance note 45 says:
Anyone who does work on a gas fitting or gas storage vessel must be
competent to do so, whether or not they are required to be a member of
an approved class of persons. Therefore, do-it-yourself gas engineers and
those performing favours for friends and relatives all need to have the required
competence. The level and range of competence should match the full extent of
work done, but needs only to be sufficient for and relevant to that work.

Cop20 defines competence in gas work:
Competence in gas installation requires enough knowledge, practical skill and
experience to carry out the job in hand safely, with due regard to good working
practice. The installation should also be left in a safe condition for use. Knowledge
must be kept up to date with changes in law, technology and safe working
practice.

A class of person etc.etc.
Is someone who does gas work for gain.

I agree with petej by asking the question izzy83 has demonstrated a lack of competence in this area.
