Guys need some help. This is a long thread apologies but I may have made a boo boo.
The element in my oven blew and having checked Youtube it became obvious that this was a job that I could do . I ordered the part and changed the element . Once I changed I turned the oven on for about an hour no problems fully working and proud of myself.
When reattaching the back of the cooker I brushed and literally did brush a wire on the back which came apart from what I now know was the thermostat . I reconnected the red wire at the top and bottom with new male connectors to give a more robust and safer connection . Hey presto hurdle 2 overcome and cooker worked again .
Last night about 2 weeks later and after regular usage the thermostat at the back of oven blew and I'm hoping this is more to do with the age of the thermostat than my connections .However what I haven't mentioned is when I removed the old element there was a thin aluminium / metal bar about 2/3mm thick and 100mm long screwed to the back of cooker on element connection .It had a wire soldered to the end which was fed through a hole in the back of the oven and into the side of the cooker ....think it goes to a PCB or something but have taken side panel off as there are shedloads of screws etc .The new element had nowhere to attach this bar so I removed the bar by cutting at the wire assuming the new element didn't need it ????
Is this something to do with earthing and maybe reponsible for the thermostat blowing or am I barking up the wrong tree . Obviously need to order a new thermostat but also need to know if I need to order this connecting bar for element ??? Don't like to put people out of a job but cant afford an aplliance specialist as parts aren't exactly cheap and microwave meals aren't my bag !!!!
