If you have gravity hot water it is common for some of the upstairs rads to heat with just the water on.

If you have gravity hot water and it has just started happening you may have a gravity check valve that often stick open which would cause this fault.

If you have a fully pumped system its probably the zone / divertor valve passing.

If it as always been like this from instalation then it's called 'Reverse Circulation' caused by the upstairs heating circuit return being plumbed into the circuit after the Hot Water Return. It can happen on Gravity or fully pumped systems. If this is the case the easiest option is to fit NRV's into the upstairs heating returns.

IF YOU BREAK THE 3T RULE THIS HAPPENS!
