The silver / aluminium strip between the carpets is a threshold strip.
Threshold strips come in a variety of widths, the ones you have now are narrow, the "normal" carpet movement has caused the carpet to shrink back from the threshold strip.
Suggest you have a look for wider Threshold strips?
They are [generally] held down with screws, an easy DIY fix?
