Hello, I recently bought a ctek mxs 5.0 car battery charger, it came with a two prong plug. this didn't fit in my outdoor weatherproof socket (which only works when closed) as the plug stuck out too far. So I very foolishly cut the plug off thinking I could simply put on a UK 3 pin plug, unfortunately upon closer inspection-after the the deed was done-the ctek plug was fused at 16a and the highest fuse/plug that I can find is 13a. So now I have a £50 charger with no plug. Could you please advise how I best correct this, thanks, in advance, andy
P.S. as you can tell by my above tale of woe, i'm a complete electrical novice so feel free to, if you are kind enough to answer, to put it into laymans terms.

Hi

I suspect that charger was designed for sale in another country, and should not have been sold with that plug.

With the specification you supplied, you should be OK to continue and fit a UK plug. It will not be using anything near 13 amps.

You don't need to worry about it, 12v at 5A = 60 watts, which is 0.25 A at 240v so you can use a 13A UK plug and fuse it at 3A
