Hi all, first time on this site. I'm building a L shaped vanity that will be stained grey. I’ve already made the 3 carcass’ out of ¾” birch plywood.

First question is: Since I can’t locate birch lumber for the face frame, what other wood should I use so that the grain & color will come out similar to the birch? Been to 84, Lowes & HD and it seems my choices are only poplar, pine or oak. 84 suggested maple but I didn’t like all the knots.

Second question: planning on using clear poly on the inside, should I also poly the hidden sides & backs?

Thanks for any and all suggestions & replies!

Hi,

Welcome to the forum rdh. :)

If you only want a colour match on the frame why not simply paint it? If the vanity is going to be subjected to moisture or water then I would certainly seal everything.

Kind regards, Colin.
