Airing cupboard - plasterboard vs gas pipe

Hello,

I was looking for some advice on how to deal with our cupboard. I want to build some shelving on the right hand side but want to plaster the chimney breast first. I'm just a bit hesitant to place plaster board over this pipe pictured as don't want to risk drilling into it. The pipe is in the centre of the image just left to the filled in hole.

Would you build a stud wall and place the plaster board on this to avoid this from happening?

I'd fire ahead with a stud wall. Mark the plaster board before you put it up showing the location of the pipe and don't drill in that area.
