3 Prong Plug to 4 Wire Outlet

How can I hook up a 3 prong plug to a 4 wire outlet. The dryer has a ground strap which the old one didn't. The outlet has 4 wires which I can wire directly to the dryer (which is how the old dryer was wired), and skip the outlet and plug. How can I ground the wire to the dryer that has the ground strap? Any help would make my wife and life very happy. Thanks.

Okay, this an easy answer. No you cannot modify the machine or the receptacle. You can however purchase a four wire cable and install it on the machine,
