Hi, in in the process of knocking out a fireplace. The span is less than a metre but I put Acros in just to be safe.
I bought an oak beam to act as a lintel but as I took off the plaster and cement render I noticed and exposed a brick arch.
My question is:
Am I right in thinking the brick arch is enough to support the brick above?
Should I repair the lime mortar that had fallen out during the excavation process before removing the bricks below the arch?
To the right of the opening the builder has turned a brick to install a lead gas pipe. Am I right in thinking I can knock that out and repair without supporting the brick above?
Sorry that's more than one question!
Many thanks
