Installing concrete base to a working coal fire...

I have a working coal fire in a period property where the base, which I believe is concrete, has over the years deteriorated. Therefore I need to build the base up again in readiness for the winter to use an open coal fire again. What concrete should I use for this as the base is quite deep which needs filling? Thanks
