Help in fixing a water stained kitchen worktop

Hello everyone
So, we are in a rented house and have given notice to leave. However in our kitchen next to the sink we have a pot for putting cleaned cutlery in and, I think, it has caused the attached to happen. Now I say I think as we have only been in there since May last year and 9/10 use the dishwasher. Nothing specific was listed on the inventory as this mark being there apart from Water stains near the sink. I would like to err on the side of caution when it comes to this.

Any ideas?

Knowing the material would help. Is that actual wood like a butcher block or is it some form of laminate?
