Have a dehumidifier that is two years old and started making odd sounds. I cleaned the filter out but just the compressor tries to work now. The fan spins freely so it wasn't gunked up but doesn't run on its own. The compressor gets really hot when I test it so I'm wondering if that is a sign of permanent damage. Does it sound like this is fixable if I could get the fan to work again or because the compressor heats up, is there a lot more broken here.

It is not true that it causes cracks, my basement is 16 years old, and there are just hairline cracks, the same ones from when we moved in, we run a dehumidifier on a regular basis.
