removal of lime plaster

have removed lime plaster from chimmey breast 1900 house, now need to clean brick work with what? also can the dust make skin red sore and give you itchy eyes as these are the symptoms in our house at the moment . is there a technique for the removal of old plaster that keeps lime plaster dust particles to a minimum.many thanks

Yes lime can irritate ...

clean the brickwork off for what ? ...are you having bare brickwork or going to finish it another way ?

Having removed a lot of old lime plaster recently, I am surprised that you were affected by it. Fresh lime mortar does irritate but most of the active ingredient (Calcium hydroxide) will have been converted to calcium carbonate after 100 years.

I hope you are going to replace it with fresh lime plaster, in which case you don't need to do any cleaning up.
