I have recently purchased a cottage built in the 60's. My wife, kids and I will be using it as a weekend get away as its on a small lake. Anyway, were making improvements to it where we see fit without major cost to us. Currently I am attempting to install GFI's in bathroom and kitchen. The wiring in the house is knob and tube and is actually to thick to wrap around the screws on the big box store GFI's.
My question is...can I split open some romex to steel the wire and wire nut and tape the romex wire to the knob and tube to create jumpers to the GFI outlet?
Ideally running all new wiring would be preferred right?...but that isn't going to happen as the budget doesn't permit. We do not want to over invest in this house/cottage.
