Hello, I'm a total numpty when it comes to DIY but have been asked to translate a quote for work for a friend (languages are my area f speciality:)). It's in French and the bit I understand but can't translate is the the "epaisseur de reservation": which means the total thickness of the concrete base, the underfloor heating system and the screed on top of that. Is there a technical word or expression for this in English or should I just call it the total thickness?

Thanks so much,

Hi Mel,

Yes it is the total floor thickness. But you would usually add in that you have accounted for screed/base, separation layer etc. (i.e Total floor thickness/makeup = 450mm. Which includes for 325mm base/separation layer overlayed with underfloor heating within75mm screed).

Long winded I know, but this is due to floors being made out of all types of materials/makeups etc.

If it were me I would sketch it then give it to the client for information, with all dimensions.
