I have approximately a 30x25 basement room with a partial wall down the center which is a weight bearing wall. There are 2 stories above the basement. The joists are 12"(LPI 20) and span in the direction of the 30'. The wall cuts this in half. If I span a beam across the room where the existing wall is (total will be around 21-22 ft.) will the basement floor be strong enough to support the weight at the 2 support points at both ends of the beam? My hope is that this is possible as I don't want to go through the expense of digging footings. Any information or alternate suggestions will be appreciated.
