The door will only operate when holding down the button at the house. The
remote, or single touch of the fixed control button will make the light on
the control unit light up and the door will move less that 1 inch.

The door is used only 2-3 days per week and has been installed for over 10
years. I highly doubt that the door is out of balance.

In other posts there has been mention of sensitivity control. Where can I
adjust the sensitivity if necessary?

Have you checked that the sensors are aligned and bean eyes cleaned?
Try that first. A sensor could also be bad. Wires may be loose.

There is usually a control for adjusting the sensitivity of the
circuitry that senses the current draw of the opener's motor. As
you know it's part of the safety built into the door opener for those
cases when a child or goofy adult gets under a closing door or when
something may get caught in an opening door and cause damage. You should
pull the emergency release cord and make sure the door opens smoothly
by hand and with the door manually opened all the way, see if the opener
moves the mechanical parts if it's a chain drive or screw drive
which will help you determine if there is a drive mechanism problem.
There should be a knob or hole with a screw slot for adjusting the
sensitivity of the current limit for the motor. The potentiometer could
simply have some dust in it or there could be dried grease on the drive
mechanism which would cause the motor to draw enough current to shut it
down. ^_^

How old is the battery in the remote? Sensitivity control is how
sensitive the door sense the blockage when moving up/down so it can
stop or reverse direction of movement.
