Where plywood meets drywall.

Hi,

It is recommended that skylights are finished with plywood rather than
drywall. I'm imagining that the plywood does not get spackled. But
then how does one finish the edge where the plywood meets the drywall.

Thanks,

Aaron

You can use corner bead and spackle, but I wonder why you can't use
sheetrock. I have sheetrock on mine and no problems.

I have spackled (rough) plywood with success, several coats with some
patience. Finish the edge using stock trim, plain or match the door
trim. It is more difficult to do, but you can use mesh tape and
spackle the transistion with a series of drying, sanding, skim
coating, and careful light/shadow inspections.

Recomended by whom???? They would be WRONG..I have done hundreds of
skylights in the last 20 years with drywall and cornerbead...Perhaps the
builder is to lazy or doesn't know how to frame one out for drywall and just
wants to tack up some plywood????
I'm being told by a number of sources that drywall will rot over time
due to intense exposure to the sun. I don't have a builder, I'm a
fledging diyer.

The only thing I know of that rots drywall is water.

Well, I guess fire would do it too, but if fire is rotting your
drywall, you have other things to worry about. :)
