Go with bigger than 32mm.

I'd say it depends on how much movement you want to gain in your plumbing.
One method of disguising a large hole for pipework is with another smaller
wood panel screwed on top of the first. The actual hole behind can be quiet
large, but when you cut the hole in the face panel, you make it fit neat
around your pipework.

Cut the face panel in half, right through the middle of the hole for the
pipe, then screw the face panel to the back, joining the two halves
perfectly back together. This method also has the advantage of allowing
access to the pipework in the future, without having to rip everything out
if, luck forbid, you suspect leaks or other damage.

Right so when you join up the board....... dam it don't meet in the middle.
Should have made an allowance for the saw cut, oops.
