Unlocking an interior door

Neil

I just moved into a new place, and the wind blew the bedroom door
closed while the doorknob's lock was in the locked position! This is
a twist type lock where you turn it from the inside to lock it. The
other side has a keyhole, but I can't for the life of me find the KEY!
I don't know if the previous owners left it. I did notice a small
(maybe 1/8") hole on the side of the doorknob. Is there any way this
can be used to open the door? Is there any other way to open the door
without calling a locksmith?!?!

TIA,

Most of these interior locks are for simple privacy. A small, flat blade
screwdriver inserted in this hole ought to unlock it just fine.

Well, first, I *AM* a locksmith. 18 years in the trade.

I can't tell what brand it is, from here. I'm thinking Kwikset, and then
thinking Weslock, and the more I read your post, the less I'm sure.

Hole on the side of the door knob. On the plate next to the knob, or side of
the knob?

This is Turtle.

Stormy awwwwwwww are you going to give the fellow or even me a ideal of what
your tring say or why your asking questions.

If you think you can help him open it up say yes or no and then start asking
questions.

Stormy why don't you just tell him to use a credit card or a small screw drive
to pop the pin on it and get in. Or drill it out and get a new one at walmarts
for about $10.00 and the instruction are plain as day with the new door knob.
The Exxon credit card worked best for me.
