Rust on clothes coming from Hotpoint washing machine?

Relatives live in a hard water area and have had a Hotpoint WDD960 washing
machine for just over a year.

They are now getting small yellow spots that show up on light coloured
clothes that they are told are rust spots. And that they should use 'Calgon'
in the washing machine.

Is this likely the fault of the machine? If so should one try to get
recompense from Hotpoint?

Is there any good way to get rid of these yellow spots?

Quite seriously, get rid of the Hotpoint. Modern machines of theirs are
rubbish.

Anyway, the bearings will go soon. The spots might even be due to the
bearing seal failure.

Check that the filter on the hose/machine connection is present.
ie the inlet of the solenoid valve.
You often get bits of crap out of the iron/steel underground pipe
especially if someone has been messing with it.

Oh and make sure some rusting steel object not trapped
somewhere in the machine. Eg in the drain.
It's not likely to be anything to dowith the machine itself.

And that they should use 'Calgon' in the washing machine.
Rubbish advice.
iS THIS LIKELY THE FAULT OF THE MACHINE?
No.

Depends what they are.
What washing detergent is used?
What wash programme is used?
