Hi, I have a quick question. I'm doing a central air job in a house (3
1/2 ton overhead Gibson). The homeowner asked for the best type of
filtration device & my supplier said electronic air filters are the
best. My customer also is thinking about adding an ultraviolet germ -
killer in the duct system too. My question(s) are - 1. are electronic
filters really good?. 2. What setup would anyone recommend for
installing a u/v light & what style/brand is good?
Thanks.

ME: My experience over the last 30 years, is that, EAC's are unreliable
Honneywell has had countless problems with their EAC's especially
during the 1990's . I refuse to put them in anymore unless the customer
really twists my arm. A much better solution is a HEPA whole house
filtration system ; 'Five Seasons' has a good one . They have a website
you can go to to learn more . HEPA filters are used in Hospital
Operating Rooms and that technology has come to residental applications
too.

Cant offer much help on UV lights. Typically, one installed in the
return air duct and one installed directly downstream of the Cooling
Coil, is preferred for maximum effectiveness.

I install either Field Controls UV systems, or UltraVation
http://www.ultravation.com/
lamps....you might also find a better filtration system on their page.
And yes...they are that good...its going to depend on the setup, but I have
them in my home, and all new installs get one.

This is Turtle.

Without going into a lot of detail I will say the UV lites are really good at killing out all Bateria in the air that passes by it.
I may have over stated here a little. It will strilize any bacteria that passes by it. It will not be able to grow to make you sick
at all. I'm tring out two of them now on two jobs and have got some good reports as to it seems to kill out smells of the house
while using them.

That is the most rediculas homeowner post i have ever seen. Does he
think for a second we think hes a contractor?

To every who gave helpful advice - Thank You. To Stan: I don't give a
damn if you think i'm a homeowner or contractor. The fact is, I've been
doing heating for the last 40 years - and I happen to live in a home.
I've not done much A/C work; its not my area specialty.
Otherwise, I will be looking into the information everyone sent. Tanks
again.

You are most welcome Micheal. Please disregard the uncalled for
comments from those in this DG....they have many problems in life , and
HVAC is one way for their release.

If I wanted your opinion, I'd give it to you first.

The alt hierarchy is anarchistic. The rules are; there aren't any rules.
