Help with Poison Ivy

Mike.Spurgeon

Hi

I am an author writing a book about Poison Ivy and its treatment. I
have personally suffered from it and want to put all the information
about it in one place. I am very interested in getting as many real
life experiences from you all as possible and to help do this have
created a quick online survey at:

In return for your help you will receive a copy of an e-book written
by my wife and myself called "Dangers On The Trail". This is the
result of many years experience and lots of research which lists
potential dangers, how to prepare for them and how to deal with them.

You think anyone would read a book about poison ivy?

But if you want a fun anecdote...
A neighbor at the lake came over and told me I had better kill the poison
ivy growing up through my deck; he had just spent the last two days killing
it all on his property. I replied that I really hoped he hadn't killed any
quincfoil, as it tends to crowd poison ivy out! (all the vegetation on my
deck was quincfoil) He never spoke to me again.

I pulled down poison ivy vines and plants, then burnt them, inhaled
the smoke, and did not shower till the next day, I got up to 250 welts
on one arm some the size of dimes. For maybe 10 years every 6 months
my hands would break out even in winter. For 6 months I was very sick
afer the initial exposure. Steriods helped but after the 10 day run it
came back. I bet you never heard of it that bad, nor do many doctors
believe it, but it happened. That was 1993. Moral of the story, Jack
Daniels and Poison Ivy dont mix.

Were the recurrences caused by contact with PI, or just some sort of
systemic thing?

Up to now the worst PI story I heard was a girlfriend who used it as toilet
paper while hiking, but your's beats that.

When I get poison Ivy i get the predisone pills (7,6,5,4,3,2,1,1/2)

Ifit gets bad enough get the predisone shot.

No I don't use the creme it's just pisses the PI off.

I tried Medrol (another steroid similar to predisone) at the dosage
you named. Broke out into a deep purple rash solid from my navel to my
knees. Very disturbing seeing one's testicles that color!

when I get poison ivy I use orange hand cleaner with pumice. I scrub
the area with that every chance I get. the orange really cuts the oil
and removes it. the pumice satisfies the scratching impulse. I am very
susceptible to ivy. this works better than anything I have tried over
the years. except maybe steroids, but u need a doctor for that.
