Is the original enamel chipped or just discoloured? If it's chipped, then
toss it out and get new bath. If the original enamel is just discoloured,
then some T-Cut on a cloth can bring back the colour quite well. Even
better if you have one of those car body polishing machines as well. :)

I used a Tubby kit two years ago and it's still fine.

Preparation is everything, it needs a good key if it's going to last

The bath needs to be clinically clean before applying the paint.

No it doesn't, it needs to be well keyed, which is something completely
different

It needs to be clinically clean. The slightest trace of soap and the
paint will peel off, keyed or not.

A few pixels short of the full picture, are we ?

being "clinically clean" has nothing to do with it

If you have keyed the surface, there shouldn't be any traces of soap etc

the surface needs something to key to

You might have rubbed it down, but that doesn't mean that it's
properly degreased.

You might have washed it and disinfected it, but with no rough surface
to key to, you would end up with a peeling skin like a brit a few days
after their spanish holiday

Proper keying requires a lot of work, including copious washing and
results in a "virgin" clean surface. There is no grease left

clinical cleaning alone is **** all use when properly preparing a
surface for a coating

Shall we leave it there or do you want to dig a deeper hole ?

As long as you use an appropriate solvent ...

Nitromors would probably be kinder to the bath - of course you might
be overcome by the fumes and fall in ...
