    Ceiling cracking and bowing repairs

From one of your photos it looks as if an attempt has been made to repair the damage before. Whatever happens it needs repairing. So you might have to bite the bullet and rip enough of it down to be able to see what's going on above it.

    Ceiling cracking and bowing repairs

Hi and welcome. It looks like the plasterboard panel of which the ceiling may be made up of a number of them, is coming adrift. This shouldn't normally happen unless there's been some water damage. Can you push it back up? If you can, it may be possible to screw it back up again using...

Is it wood oil enough protection against rain?

I'd go to a wood yard and see you can get an off-cut of Mahogany or something similar. It'd pay in the long term. Five years ago I made exterior plywood rondels that cover the coach bolts that hold the pergola to the two support posts. I painted them with Dulux mahogany woodsheen a couple of...

Is it wood oil enough protection against rain?

What sort of wood is it? It needs to be hardwood. Modern softwood comes from "substainable sources," which means that it usually has the density of forced rhubarb. If it is hardwood and you like the look of it, it should be OK, but it will need re-oiling more frequently than "if you remember."

Novide needing advice to fix leaking shed roof

Choose a non-tear polymer variety, which I did rather than get more of the old type.. Over here in the UK they don't sell it in the "sheds" only, cheap rubbish. I had to go to a roofing supply wholesalers to get it. It's well worth the extra cost.

Novide needing advice to fix leaking shed roof

Frankly, you'd be better off re-felting it. I had a similar problem last year. I originally built this shed out of re-claimed materials for our seven year-old daughter's ever increasing "zoo" of rabbits and guinea pigs. It's not seen any of either for decades she is 52 now and has a home and...

    Kenwood Chef KM200

Hi and welcome. Is it not in here? https://www.manualslib.com/manual/728690/Kenwood-Chef-Km200-Series.html Seems to be a few other links if you put the make and model number into Google.

    Outlet Help!??

It looks like some old wiring from before the property was re-wired. You need to get a meter on it to test it to see which wires are dead. If you're unsure of what you are doing, call an electrician.

    French door sill broke.

Just get a bag of ready mixed mortar (or however many) that's all you need, nothing fancy and a bricklayer's float. Brush out all the loose stuff, (the mortar was probably made with not enough cement). You only want this stuff, "sandcastle sand damp," you'll find it easy to spread and get...

    French door sill broke.

Hi and welcome. I'm assuming the packers were put there to support the window by the double glazing installers. What you think is sand is probably supposed to be a cement render. I'd brush it all out and re-render it making sure you support the window. Once it's gone off I'd put a bead of...

    Central Heating not working

Glad it's going for you again. Turning up the boiler shouldn't make it trip out. Back pressure on the flue is often the most likely cause, it can happen on very windy days. Might still be as well to check the bar pressure.

    Central Heating not working

Is it a combi? Check the water level, you should have around 1.5bar. If combi's have been off for a while, the water pressure can decrease which will stop the boiler from working so they need to be topped up. The instruictions will be in the manual. There should be a meter that shows the...

Sorry about that, I've re-uploaded it.

    Your hobbies

I've just added a near sixty-year old "element" to my 51 year old jukebox. I'd been searching for this 45rpm record for some time, I had to get it from the USA.

Can I undo this part of the valve?

That should unscrew if it's not a push on, or has a retaining screw. The water may be coming from the leaking valve or from either of the two unions. Check both unions are tight, but not overtight. Once the cap's off you might be able to tighten up the valve with a spanner on the small nut...
